10 Uncommonly Used Hiligaynon Words
1. Alimpulos – a tuft of hair that grows in a different direction from the rest of the hair and usually will not lie flat.
Example: Ang iya alimpulos ara lapit sa babaw sang iya agtang.
Translation: His cowlick is just above his forehead.

2. Alibangbang – a diurnal insect typically having a slender body with knobbed antennae and broad colorful wings.
Example: Kanami sang pakpak ka alibangbang!
Translation: The wings of the butterfly is beautiful!
3. Kaanyag – the qualities that give pleasure to the senses.
Example: Kaanyag sang palibot kung ara ka sa bukid.
Translation: The place looks great when you are in the field.
4. Kahilwayan – the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
Example: Tanan nga tawo may ara kahilwayan para ihambal kung ano ang ara sa ila ulo kag tagipusuon.
Translation: Everyone has the freedom to say or express what’s on their minds and hearts.

5. Bumulutho – a student who is studying at a school or college.
Example: Isa ako ka bumulutho sang Negros Occidental High School.
Translation: I am a student of Negros Occidental High School.
6. Karitot – a large marine crustacean with a cylindrical body, stalked eyes, and the first of its five pairs of limbs modified as pincers.
Example: Kanamit sang karitot!
Translation: The lobster is delicious!
7. Aranghita – is a natural citrus fruit, similar in appearance to a large grapefruit , native to South and Southeast Asia.
Example: Damo ga baligya sang aranghita sa downtown.
Translations: Many sells pomelo in downtown.
8. Amimilok – each of the short curved hairs growing in the edges of the eyelids, serving to protect the eyes from dust particles.
Example: Kalaba sang iya amimilok.
Translation: Her eyelashes are long.

9. Kinagubot – a state of confused and noisy disturbance.
Example: May kinagubot sa tupad balay.
Translation: There is a commotion in the neighborhood.
10. Hurangos – breathing that is audible through being deep or labored, especially in sleep or as a result of exertion.
Example: Amo na gali nga gakabatian ko siya nga ga hurangos!
Translation: That’s why I’ve been hearing heavy breathing!
